How Does an Infrared Camera Detect a Fever?

2020-05-15 16:02

The first time you see an infrared thermal imager what you'll be surprised is that you can point them at a scene and get a visual image of how hot or cold things are. So … what if those things are humans? Could you use an infrared thermal camera, for instance, to check people at an airplane gate for possible Covid-19 fevers?

It wouldn’t require any physical contact, and you get an almost instantaneous reading. Actually, you might have seen pictures of handheld IR devices called temperature guns (which work somewhat differently) used like this in China. Infrared thermal cameras are also used in factories to monitor the temperature of products or equipment without having to stop it.

How an Infrared Thermal Camera Determines Temperature?Principle of infrared thermal imager

Infrared thermometry technique is one that receives infrared radiation of the measured object through infrared detector and then converts it into video thermal image of the target by signal processing system. It transforms the thermal distribution of the object into a visual image and displays it in gray or pseudo-color on the monitor, thus obtaining the temp distribution field information of the measured object.
As the infrared thermal camera belongs to the narrow-band spectral radiation temp measurement system, the surface temp is not directly measured by it, but calculated by the measured radiant energy. Therefore, In a real scenario, the measurement accuracy is affected by the factors such as emissivity and reflectivity of the measured surface, background radiation, atmospheric attenuation, measurement distance and ambient temp.

Our thermal camera Yoseen Infrared DS-CS-2007-X Series can achieve:

①Rapid body temperature detection, accuracy up to ≦ 0.3 ℃, effective screening for fever.

②Quickly find and mark the people with fevers, and automatically alarm at the same time.

③Integrate infrared and visible lights into one, with excellent monitoring effect.

④Real time high frequency image capture, storage and transmission
